What happened to OOPS?

SPA is a BCS Specialist Group. It was previously known as "OOPS", or "BCS OOPS". The "OOPS" stood for "Object-Oriented Programming and Systems" and reflected the interests of the founders of the group. However, over time the interests of members evolved until eventually the mission of the group had little or nothing to do with object-oriented technology per se.

This evolution culminated in the recognition of the need for the group's strategy and direction to change in line with the interests of its members. A new mission for the group was defined. The new name - "Software Practice Advancement" - is defined to better reflect that mission.
